Thank you for visiting this page!

Too many visitors tell us they didn’t know what was behind the doors here at 99 Southwark Street.

Welcome to ‘Testing Works Revealed’. And you can help make it happen.

For 99 years Kirkaldy’s Testing Works offered independent, scientific testing of the materials that built our world. We want to make sure this remarkable piece of London’s engineering heritage has a new life, inspiring the next generation.

We are exploring a new lease of life for the Testing Works, looking to the future with an exciting development project, ‘Testing Works Revealed’, that opens up the opportunities of the Testing Works to our community, upgrading the spaces we offer and making it even better to hire and hold corporate events here.

The Testing Works is cared for by a charity run entirely by volunteers. Our mission is to safeguard, celebrate and share this unique engineering heritage and the story of David Kirkaldy with everyone — and we have made huge progress. In its first full year our STEM learning programme has grown through word of mouth to help over 1,000 students get hands-on with working historic machines, understand more about how physics works and see why testing materials matters! But we want to reach even more students.

£250 will pay for a school to visit

Why not talk to us about ideas for support we haven’t considered yet! To discuss any of this further, please contact sarah@testingworks.org.uk
